Did You Know?

Last week I explained how the EU is forcing us to scrap traditional tungsten light-bulbs in favour of low-energy bulbs filled with poisonous mercury.  If you break a mercury bulb you must ventilate the room for 20 minutes, then seal the fragments into a box, then send it to a hazardous waste operator.  You cannot vacuum up the mess because you’ll contaminate your hoover, and you cannot throw it into the dustbin because that’s illegal.

Mercury bulbs have caused burning on the skin of those suffering eczema and psoriasis, and are potentially lethal for the partially-sighted (and the rest of us) because they give out a dim, pathetic glow.  Take your life in your hands on every staircase.

On the subject of dim and pathetic, the British Government rolled over and agreed to this, just to please our masters in Brussels.

It gets better: the EU has listed mercury as a hazardous substance and is currently destroying British firms such as Russell Scientific Instruments because they make mercury barometers.  Edward Allen, director of the firm, appealed for help: “Who will be left with expertise to handle and repair instruments if we are stopped?  The government must listen to us and fight our case against the bureaucrats of Brussels.  Surely the government is fighting to save jobs and not increasing the unemployment figures!”

On June 4th there will be a European Election where your vote (under proportional representation) can help UKIP to scrap these crazy laws and tell the European Union where to go.  On June 4th please get out there to the polling booths, vote UK Independence Party, and throw some real light on British politics!
